The Weight I Carry From the Past

Hidden Patterns

We don't usually struggle with what we can see. We struggle with the patterns running underneath — the ones we picked up so early we mistake them for who we are. Every Saturday, a 5-minute read on how I find mine.

The Weight I Carry From My Past

What my regret is actually pointing at...

What Regret Actually Is...

Lately, I've been thinking about regret.

Regret is looking at what I don't have. Or what I did, or didn't do, right.

It's baggage from the past that weighs me down here in the present.

But sitting with it, I noticed something:

The things I regret are a reflection of what I haven't accepted in myself.

The Green Light

Here's what's odd.

I regret a few bad things I did.

But I regret more the good things I didn't do fully.

The times I saw the green light — where my foot was already on the gas — but I was going 50 when I feel like I should have gone 100.

I can sit here years later and pick that moment apart.

But to be fair to myself, I wasn't aware of every pressure I was under back then.

Every plate I was spinning.

Hindsight is always 20/20.

I get to accept that.

Acceptance Isn't About the Situation

Sometimes I can't accept the situation.

It happened. It's done.

I can't go back and press the gas.

But I don't have to accept the situation.

I get to accept myself.

I get to accept the emotions I still carry from it.

That's a different thing entirely.

And it's the part actually in my control.

I can't control or change in the past but I can control if I accept the emotions I carry right now from my regret.

The Equation

Over time, regret gets heavy.

But I've started to see that it isn't here to punish me.

It's pointing.

Directing me toward a place that still needs to heal.

And the medicine is self-acceptance.

In my mind it looks like a simple equation:

Regret + acceptance = Healing & Learning

If I go deeper into the regret instead of running from it, there's so much underneath it.

When I accept it, I don't just get to heal — I get to learn.

Here to Support Me

My regret was never meant to live in my mind rent free.

It's here to guide me to my next healing, and my next lesson.

It's not the baggage.

It's the map.

I'd love to hear where you feel regret and if its pointing you somewhere.

Have a great Saturday!
